Description

Our research group conducted the Robot-Mediated Therapy with children who were diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the continuous form of therapy sessions. The humanoid robot NAO, developed by Aldebaran Robotics, was chosen as a mediator in our therapy sessions, because it has a compact size and shape and a friendly appearance. This makes it look like a little attractive object and helps to grab children’s attention. This project aims to test the potential of the NAO robot to be an intervention tool in improving ASD children’s communication skills and behaviors. By testing it, we aim to evaluate existing methods of child-robot interaction, make further improvements in the approaches and develop new types of methods relying on previous results.
